It was another impressive sports season for the Clovis Community College (CCC) Athletic Department. On Wednesday (May 7), the outstanding achievements of CCC student-athletes on and off the field during the 2024-25 academic year were recognized at the newly-named Crush Champions Celebration. The annual event was held at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno.
Under the leadership of Director of Athletics James Sewell, the Crush captured Central Valley Conference championships in men's cross country, women's cross country, and women's track & field while seven teams advanced to postseason competition. Crush student-athletes also achieved numerous academic accolades and spent countless hours contributing to their community.
"We're so appreciative and proud of the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of our student-athletes in the classroom, in competition, and in the community," said Sewell. "It's great to be able to recognize that with an event like the Crush Champions Celebration.
"To have our student-athletes, coaches and staff, administration, and community partners all in the same room always makes for a fun and special evening, and provides the ideal environment to celebrate so many incredible achievements. And the student-athletes really took ownership of this event, from the format, to the name, right down to the decorations. We couldn't be prouder of them, and I hope that the Crush Champions Celebration is a fitting reflection of that."
Sewell and his staff honored the many achievements from the Crush's eight athletic teams. Top honors went to cross country/track & field standouts Rhiannon Walker and Joaquin McGee. Walker was named the DLC ISE Female Student-Athlete of the Year while McGee was selected the Adam Mayc-Ayotte Male Student-Athlete of the Year. (pictured)
Ashley Leeds from the women's cross country and track & field team was the Student-Athlete Speaker at the event.
