CLOVIS – Alyssa Ruelas' goal in the 45th minute proved to be the game-winner as the No. 2-seeded Clovis Community College women's soccer team fought off a tough 16th-seeded Hartnell College squad for a 1-0 win on Saturday in an opening-round game of the Northern California Regional Playoffs.
The Crush now advance to Round 2 to host either No. 7 Santa Rosa Junior College or No. 10 Las Positas College on Tuesday (Nov. 21) at 2 p.m.
With Saturday's win, Clovis improved to 19-2-1 overall. It was the Crush's 12th shutout of the season.
Two more wins are needed by Clovis to advance to the 3C2A State Championships on Dec. 1 & 3 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
