Walker captures 10,000 meters gold, Marcelo sixth on opening day of State Championships
SAN MATEO – Clovis Community College sophomore Rhiannon Walker ran 38:07.46 to finish in first place in the 10,000 meters at the 2025 3C2A Track & Field State Championships on Friday. The two-day event is hosted by College of San Mateo.
Walker broke away from a four-pack of runners on the final lap of the 10,000 to beat out West Los Angeles College's Sherlyn Gomez by nearly 10 seconds (38.17.10) in second.
Crush teammate Magy Marcelo added a solid finish in the 10,000 meters, taking sixth place with her season-best time of 39:00.25.
Walker, who made history last season by capturing the college's first-ever state championship in any sport (3,000-meter steeplechase), will look to add two more gold medals to her trophy case on Saturday when she lines up for the steeplechase and 5,000 meters.
The 3C2A State Championships conclude on Saturday at CSM, starting with the decathlon 110 hurdles at 9 a.m. -- and field events at 11 a.m. Opening ceremonies are at 12:05 p.m., followed by all remaining track finals – concluding with the 4 x 400 meter relays at 5:20 p.m.
