Walker leads Crush to seventh-place finish at State Championships
SAN MATEO – It was a record-setting weekend for Clovis Community College sophomore Rhiannon Walker and the Crush women's track & field team.
Walker captured a pair of gold medals, as well as a silver, to help lead Clovis to a program-best seventh-place team finish at the 3C2A State Championships. The two-day event at College of San Mateo wrapped up on Saturday.
Walker, who won the college's first-ever state championship in any sport last year, added to her impressive Clovis trophy case that officially came to close.
On Friday, she broke free late to finish first in the 10,000 meters with her time of 38:07.46. She successfully defended her state championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by earning gold on Saturday, clocking in at 11:17.22 to win the event.
Walker came up just short of winning three golds and earned a silver with a second-place showing in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:49.79.
She wrapped up an amazing CCC career with four career state championships. Walker was also the 2024 women's cross country state champion this past fall.
The Crush qualified for a total of 10 events at the state championships. Joining Walker in the steeplechase were Maria Garcia and Alyona Beams. Garcia was 10th at 12:30.62 followed by Beams in 11th with a time of 12:31.62.
