Crush win first-ever home match with sweep of Cerro Coso
FRESNO – The historic season of firsts continued for the Clovis Community College women's volleyball team as the Crush won its first home match in program history thanks to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Cerro Coso College on Friday at Valley Athletics in Fresno.
The Crush dominated from the start as they cruised to the 25-5, 25-19, 25-15 victory.
"It was awesome to host the first home game in program history," said Clovis head coach Mark Rosen. "You could see how much fun the team was having while playing in front of friends and family members. I'm really proud of the atmosphere Clovis Community College is committed to creating since we are playing off campus for these first few years. The atmosphere at the Valley Athletics facility was excellent!"
Juliana Sanchez led the Clovis offense with 24 kills (8 kills per set) while compiling an impressive .550 attack percentage. Makayla Whitten added 7 kills with a .583 attack percentage, Ashley Robles totaled 29 assists, Lyric Garcia had 18 digs, and Olivia LeBeau chipped in with 17 digs.
Rosen was impressed by his team's effort.
"I feel great about the way our team played tonight, he said. "We stayed very true to our style of play and didn't try to do things that don't fit our game. I think we are becoming a very authentic team that knows how we play at our best and stays true to what works for us."
Friday marked the second meeting of the two squads this season. Just two weeks ago, the Crush erased a 2-1 deficit to defeat Cerro Coso 3-2 in the first match in program history. It was a much-different match on Friday.
"This is a team we beat in a five-set brawl two weeks ago and to pull off a solid sweep at home shows how much improvement this team has made," Rosen said.
The win improved Clovis to 4-1 overall. The Crush will be back in action next Saturday (Sep. 13) when they travel to Allan Hancock College in a Santa Maria for a pair of non-conference matches. Clovis is set to take on host Allan Hancock at 11 a.m. and Santa Barbara City College at 1 p.m.
